Zonta Club of the Southern Black Hills presented $500 to the HOSA club of Custer High School to help defer expenses for a trip to HOSA’s National Competition in Nashville. HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) is an international student-led organization with the mission of educating high school students about opportunities in the healthcare field. Through hands-on experiences with current healthcare practitioners and healthcare-related State and National level competitions, HOSA focuses on developing youth interest in healthcare professions at a time when the shortage of healthcare professionals nationwide continues to grow, particularly in rural areas.
The Custer HOSA Chapter was started this school year and has achieved great success. At the State conference this Spring, Custer students placed first in the individual Medical Math competition, second in individual Veterinary Science, and second among 15 teams in the team Creative Problem Solving competition. All of these Custer students qualified to compete at the National HOSA Conference in Nashville, Tennessee June 22nd-25th.
The team of Joana Arengo, Taren Jones, Ben Marchand, and Emme Schmidt, along with their HOSA faculty advisor, Mrs. Mindy Dooley have been fundraising for the trip. Expenses are estimated to be $4200 for travel, lodging, and conference fees.

Zonta Club of the Southern Black Hills is part of an international organization of women advocating for and supporting women locally and world-wide to achieve their maximum potential. For more information visit our Facebook page
