Saturday, August 13 and the Bulls at the Custer County Fair Bull Riding event in Hermosa, SD were in top form. Jeff Svoboda, Custer County Fair board member explained that: “the bull riding event was added to the county fair 3 years ago and has seen growth every year drawing larger crowds and experienced riders”. The bull ring is smaller than standard allowing better control of the bulls and front row seating for the spectators.
Heather Hunsacker event coordinator, “explained that there were 30 registered riders from 3 different states ranked in Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA), Professional Bull Riding (PBR) and Championship Bull Riding (CBR) competing for a share of $2500.00 in prize money”.
The stock contractors were. Ferguson Bucking Bulls Hermosa, Thad Botwell Bucking Bulls Rapid City, and Jack Coleman Bucking Bulls, Springfield, SD.

Dewey O’Dea winning the average with 162 on two bulls
TR Stirling second with an average of 161 on two bulls

I made it down to the Custer County Fair in Hermosa SD, Friday night just in time for the free meal and the Ranch Rodeo Calcutta and Rodeo. A Calcutta for those not familiar with the rodeo circuit is an auction where team’s of four are bid on by the rodeo audience, if your bid wins a team and that team wins, you get some cash.. Below are images of the Ranch Rodeo action, rancher’s take note description’s, may be somewhat vague and that’s because,well sad to say.. this was my first Ranch Rodeo event. All events were timed.
The Custer County Fair ends Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
