South Dakota’s “Mount Rushmore’s American Pride” Float Appears in the Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®

PIERRE, S.D. — R&B icon Smokey Robinson will perform on the “Mount Rushmore’s American Pride” float in the 91st Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®.

For the eighth year in a row, the “Mount Rushmore’s American Pride” float will appear in the parade. An estimated 3 million spectators will watch from New York while more than 50 million television viewers watch nationwide. The goal of this effort by the Department of Tourism is to drive new and repeat visitors to the state and to generate brand awareness.

Smokey Robinson will be joined by the South Dakota Department of Tourism’s Mount Rushmore mascots.

The float will make its national appearance on NBC-TV on Thursday, November 23rd, between 9 a.m. and noon in all time zones.

The South Dakota Department of Tourism is comprised of Tourism and the South Dakota Arts Council. The Department is led by Secretary James D. Hagen.

PIERRE, S.D. – During the 75th anniversary year of the completion of Mount Rushmore National Memorial, the “Mount Rushmore’s American Pride” float will appear in the 90th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®.

This is the seventh year the “Mount Rushmore’s American Pride” float has been featured in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade®. It is estimated that more than 3 million spectators watch the parade on the streets of New York while more than 50 million television viewers nationwide watch the parade. The goal of South Dakota’s presence in the parade is to generate brand awareness and inspire new and repeat travelers to visit the state.

Performing on the float will be pop sensation Ben Rector. Rector is an American singer, songwriter and musician who describes his music as “pop with a purpose.” His album Brand New was released in August 2015 and a music video for the song “Brand New” was released in August 2016.

Also on the float for the second time will be the Department of Tourism’s Mount Rushmore mascots

The float will make its national appearance on NBC-TV on Thursday, November 24, between 9 a.m. and noon in all time zones.
